Ramblings of Nick Robillard

Well I was finally able to really use the GPS capabilities of the iPhone and I'm really impressed. For one, I was really happy that the GPS features didn't literally need a straight shot to the sky. A car roof or something similar doesn't render the GPS useless. (i think it updates a little less) The Maps app updated very smoothly when I had a straight shot skywards (many times a second) and went down to maybe once every 2 seconds when a car roof was in the way.
Something else I was impressed with was the Speed application. Sure this is basic math but i was really happy with how accurate it reported our speed while traveling in a car or on a boat.
I would really like to see a true compass application. I'm not sure if the iPhone currently has the ability to do that (could be missing hardware) but at least with GPS, you can see which direction you're walking in.
